A few weeks ago I bought a new pick up truck and I wanted to move a lot things around with it. I have to admit that the trunk is just like a dumpster, you can find all kinds of trash like stuff in it, sometimes I think I am just a hoarder! Of course I had the confidence that I would do a nice job before I went on packing the stuff, but the reality just taught a lesson. When the trunk is full I just stared at the mess I created, said to myself, I just did that? OK, I actually did that. I said to myself that there was no way I could go ahead like this, if I did there would be possible consequences like these: most likely the big mess would just throw themselves off the truck and there would be high probability to cause accidents, or before anything could happen I would be stopped by a police officer and get ticketed. Anyway driving with the dumpster will never be a good idea, no matter what.
I had at lease two choices , I either could repack everything and tie them down or just hold the whole mess together with something, to sum it up, I only need to find something to hold all stuff together and I would be good to go! Was that simple? Would I have to buy something like 4600lbs working load limit binder chain or 3333lbs ratchet strap? Not likely. All I need is something can hold a few hundred pounds and can cover the trunk, not some serious application at all. Since I already stack everything up, no cargo bars needed, those cargo bars for pickup are just for boxes or bags support or something similar, not for holding things together. Usually I would drive to local store to find what I wanted but this time I decided to go online.
At first I was totally lost because there so many tie downs, but when I narrow down my search to pick up truck I was able to find something useful, at first I found some 1” ratchet straps, camouflage ones, I liked these straps but they are too much in strength for me, even they were not too expensive, for the same reason those cam buckle straps were not good choice, what I found was too heavy duty yet not good enough for my purpose, I don’t think the ratchet straps could improve my situation there, 1” straps weren’t helpful here. Small pieces need something like a net to hold them together, not tie downs. Then I ran into this gem: cargo net for pick ups, the size is 48”x60” which is ideal for my truck, just put the cargo net on top the pile then tie it down, you’re all set. Here we have to introduce the bungee cord, the essential part of the cargo net, you can use the cords separately or connected together just like cargo net. For the record, the cargo nets and bungee cords are perfect for hold small stuff together, especially irregular objects in my case. And you can put these light duty tie downs to some creative use as you see fit, they are just perfect for passenger cars and small trucks.
