READ THE TIRE SIZE
You will be able to find numbers and characters on the side of the tires. Usually for the modern tires the size almost always presented this way: P205/70R14,this example indicates that the tire is 205mm wide, has an aspect ratio of 70% and is mounted on a wheel whose diameter is 14 inches. All of these numbers are critical in helping you to find the traction products that will fit your tire.
TIRES YOU NEED TO CHAIN UP
Usually you should choose the drive tires to chain up with tire chain. On vehicles with front-wheel drive this would be the two front tires, and if your car is rear-wheel drive then obviously you should chain two rear tires. Now what if you don’t know what type of drive system on your car, then check the vehicle owner’s manual. One more thing, if you have a four wheel drive vehicle, for some reasons you only want to chain up 2 tires, always check the owner’s manual for advice on which axle to chain up. To stay on safe side and retain as much of the normal handling characteristics of your 4MATIC as possible, chain up all tires of your vehicle.
Under normal driving conditions, the traction on all wheels are about the same, making you feel normal when asserting brake, acceleration and cornering. If you’re driving on the snow and ice you won’t find the balance under normal condition. If you only install snow chains on the front tires, during braking and driving the rear tires will swing. If only the rear tires have the car snow chain on, you will find the vehicle steering ability is limited. To get this balance back, you should put snow chains on all tires, driving or not. In most cases the snow chains on the market are sold in pairs, if you want to put snow chains on all tires, you must purchase two pairs. Remember there are truck tire chains and car tire chains , usually the truck tire chains are much more expensive than car tire chains.
